What is the POCSO Act?

It is a comprehensive child protection law that safeguards any person below 18 years of age from sexual offences. It was enacted to provide strict punishment, child-friendly procedures, and speedy justice.

Applies to all workplaces

Penetrative sexual assault 
(rape-like offences)

Aggravated penetrative sexual assault (by authority figures like teachers, police, relatives, etc.)

Sexual assault (non-penetrative physical abuse)

Sexual harassment (verbal, gestures, or showing pornography)

Key Features of the POCSO Act

Gender-neutral law :
Protects *both boys and girls*

Child-friendly procedures

Statement recorded in a safe environment (often at home)
No aggressive questioning
Identity of the child kept confidential

Mandatory reporting

Any person (including teachers, doctors, or relatives) *must report* suspected child abuse
